Welcome to Presque Isle County

Presque Isle County is located along Lake Huron on the northeastern shore of Michigan’s lower peninsula. The county has an area of 678 square miles (approximately 433,928 acres), which includes 72 miles of shoreline. The county consists of fourteen townships, two cities and two villages. The County seat is located in Rogers City at 151 E Huron, 41 miles east of Interstate 75 on M68 and thirty seven miles north of the city of Alpena on US23.

The population of Presque Isle County according to the 2000 census was 14,411.

40 Mile Pointe Lighthouse


The county has three lighthouses and three marinas located on Lake Huron. The 40 Mile Pointe Lighthouse is the new county park. Presque Isle also contains two state parks, Hoeft State Park located in Rogers Township just outside of Rogers City and the Onaway State Park located north of the City of Onaway.

There are numerous State Forest campgrounds located throughout the county one at the Ocqueoc Falls in Ocqueoc Township just off M68 between Rogers City and Onaway. The Ocqueoc Falls is known as the largest waterfall in the Lower Peninsula.

Presque Isle County is also known for its karst formations of underground rivers and sinkholes, and contains the world’s largest open pit limestone quarry with a deep-water port.

Presque Isle County is in the 1st Congressional District, the 37th State Senatorial District and the 106th State Representative District. The county is part of the 53rd Judicial District and District Health Department #4. Presque Isle County has a five-member board of commissioners. Board of Commissioner meetings are open to the public and are held at the County Building, 151 E Huron, Rogers City in regular bi-monthly sessions as follows (except the October statutory meeting):
Second Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday at 9:30 a.m.
